What is Spiritual Direction?
"Spiritual Direction is a safe place to explore your questions and concerns about your life with God. A Christian spiritual director is a trained listener who will accompany you as you share about your spiritual journey, helping you to notice God’s presence and activity along the way, as well as your personal reactions and responses. Hospitable, confidential, and grounded in biblical truth, spiritual direction is a ministry that helps you grow in prayer and live into your calling as a follower of Christ.”

Joan's Approach in Spiritual Direction
As of May 2021, Joan enrolled in the 2-year Selah Certification Program in Spiritual Direction*, and it is her joy to offer Spiritual Direction services to people wanting to "hear God and see God's part in their story in the context of prayer-centered relationship." (Jeannette Bakke, Holy Invitations)
A Spiritual Director—often called a Spiritual Companion—helps others (known as directees) to focus on making greater sense of their faith journey and to deepen their process of hearing and experiencing God.
In this one-on-one spiritual companioning relationship between a directee and Joan, there is a unique emphasis on slowing down, engaging listening prayer and helpful pauses, leaning into scripture, and gaining our loving Triune God's direction and insight.

Here is what others say about their experience of spiritual direction with Joan:
"I’m really not sure what I expected from these Spiritual Direction sessions. This was new for me. But I admit that I'm amazed at what a blessing they have been. I believe our triune God has provided direction (often surprising even) on things that have been on my mind. Frequently I get the sense that He just wants me to be still (not easy for me but I’m learning) and to be with him. I’m so thankful to Joan for her role and participation in these sessions." - Karen H. |
