Meditations for Christians Who Try to be Perfect
For those who attempt--yet inevitably fail--to follow Jesus' example of a perfect life: daily meditations that point the way to the grace and forgiveness of God.
In these 365 meditations, Joan C. Webb reflects on her own struggles with burnout, disappointment, and action-addiction. She shares the wisdom she gained by looking at the Bible again to see what it really said. Does God expect us to over-work, over-give, over-help, over-commit and over-serve until we feel exhausted? No. He actually longs to give us peace, relaxation, joy and a sense of well-being as we trust him.
Webb provides suggested Bible readings, key scriptural phrases, real-life anecdotes and other encouraging thoughts to help Christians achieve balance, leave perfectionism behind and learn to live by grace. Joan C. Webb is a successful businesswoman, speaker/teacher and life coach.

Personal Note from JoanHi Friends,
Regrettably, Meditations for Christians Who Try to Be Perfect is out of print from the original publisher--and I no longer have any inventory. Click here to visit my Amazon page, you'll see that you can buy the new book from well-respected sellers. This book relates to both men and women. In fact, most of my mail was from males in the ministry or service-related careers who were experiencing burnout. High achieving, goal-oriented, capable, overly conscientious people are candidates for burnout. Burnout might be defined as "the type of stress and emotional fatigue, frustration, and exhaustion that occurs when a series or combination of events in a relationship, mission, way of life, or job fail to produce an expected result." Healing, change and burnout recovery is possible. I love this Bible verse: The Lord ...will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Isaiah 58:11. Blessings, Joan |
Sample MeditationStop! Smell the Roses!
Ecclesiastes 11:8: "How many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all." "I'm going now," said my secretary. "Thank you for everything." "All the best to you in your new career," I said. As she walked out the door, she handed me an envelope. Once back in my office, I opened it. Inside was a bon voyage card with the following hand-written message: "Joan, I hope someday you can stop and smell the roses." Today as I work in my home office a lovely lily plant sits on my desk. The fragrance fills the room. And I am enjoying it as I write. Back then I was so busy, so rushed, so preoccupied, so driven. Now, I am less obsessed. I did stop to smell the flowers. And I'm grateful. The wisest man in the world once said, "Enjoy every day of your life." We can learn to stop racing through our tomorrows and start relishing our todays. Lord, I don't know how long I will live. May I enjoy each day that is mine -- now. |
